We spent our last day in Rome seeing Vatican City and the Sistine Chapel, St Peter's Basillica was huge and like the rest of Rome there was so much detail everywhere, quite alot to take in. The Sistine chapel was good to see but had to trek around the museum to get to it, if we were art lovers it would've been much more appreciated.
Got the train to Salerno instead of Naples as we had heard bad things about Naples from the locals which about 30 miles south hoping to have a few days by the beach this was shot to bits when all along the coast was nothing but debris!! We then decided to look for a hotel for the night but everywhere was either too expensive or booked. We ended up walking around with our backpacks for 5 hours (yes that's right!! 5 hours) Dee got major grumps (vote of sympathy please!!) we finally opted for the hotel opposite the station so we could have a quick get away the next morning. Salerno is REALLY not recommended you have been warned...!!
Got the bus to Pompei this morning as the Sunday train service isn't good.
Now in Pompei, just walked round the ruins, much larger then expected, legs knackered after yesterdays expedition. Considering the eruption was 79AD the inside of some ruins was still pretty impressive.
We hope to leave Italy to Greece, learning quick that nothing goes as planned just go with the flow.
Overall we've seen some interesting characters in Italy, in general Dee likes Italy but feels we've barely scratched the surface, Steve says it's ok and Roger thinks it's well worth a look.
We're glad to have seen what we have apart from Salerno... It's a %$i" HOLE!! We're gagging to get on a beach!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
