During the flight to Cairo Steve doubled his current sleep to 40 mins before the food came out, the flight was quick if a bit shaky and the 3 of us really stank but spirits lifted as we circled over Cairo with a view of the pyramids ready to land. Our taxi took us on a death defying journey to our hostel, the drivers here are unique!!
Our 1st night we were taken for a walk around Downtown Cairo by the hostel owner who by coincidence is called Ramadam and it's Ramadam here. Dee felt really vulnerable walking the steers, you could tell that they don't see western women very often (different clothes are needed). Due to tiredness and stupidity we also managed to come back with perfume (TIP: Don't try and haggle, or even buy anything in Cairo with only a few hours sleep, you need your wits about you, we didn't even want perfume!!) After the perfume experince we went to have a hubbly bubbly then bed.
Alarm was set for 9 to get down to the Indian Embassy for 11.30 to sort visas, didn't get up till then, never mind try again tomorrow. We spent the day getting our bearings, saw the Nile and went up Cairo tower, with massive vistas of the capital and pyramids in the distance. Much to our disgust as it is Ramadam we had to have Maccie D's as we were really struggling to find food.
Night 2 we had a hubbly bubbly and then a boat down the Nile with Ramadam and his friend Ahmed, there were pimped up tour boats all around us blaring out music, sorry no pics as forgot camera.
We managed to get oursleves out of bed to get the Indian visas started as it takes 3 weeks to process, Dee had no passport photos so we were challenged to find anywhere open to get some taken, luckily our driver for the day took us to an old photo studio where Dee managed to get 8 passport photos for 1.50, another thing we get tucked up for back home! Visa sorted we headed to Giza and the pyramids, it was phenomenally hot and we were about to have a camel ride in the desert. Tucked up on the price even though we haggled (fortunately Ramadam has lots of ties and got us the money back that we shouldn't have paid when we returned to the hostel) Top Man!The pyramids were amazing and well worth a look, the pictures don't do them justice, 2nd tour of the day took us to see some other pyramids in Saccara which aren't as big but still mind blowing and also has a museum with a real mummy.
Afterwards we were taken back to the hostel and invited to a traditional Ramadam dinner by our hosts, the food was fantastic and they weren't going to let us leave without it being finished. After dinner Ramadam and Ahmed took us for yet another hubbly bubbly (i think he needs to join a group and open up to his problem) tomorrow we start our next adventure, a desert safari sleeping under the stars....
