Swanning It With The Woods
Living on the road for over 10 months with few responsibilities to distract us other than the health and wellbeing of our two young boys, there have been some interesting life lessons learnt.
Here are a few of them:
- Outdoor time everyday keeps you connected to nature
- Having an indoor space is essential, because sometimes outside is not so nice...
- Hearing the birds in the morning and seeing the sunrise rejuvenates your soul
- A stick and a pile of dirt entertains a 1 year old endlessly
- A truck and a pile of dirt entertains a 3 year old endlessly
- I am healthier and fitter than I have ever been.
- Carrying a 10 kg baby and 15 kg toddler (sometimes at the same time) and setting up a camper every few days boosts upper body strength.
- Sugar to a 3 year old is poison
- Having 160L total of water makes you value the resource.
- Travelling with two three and unders is hard.
- Travelling with two three and unders is rewarding
- Travelling with two three and unders is fun.
- Our favourite spots came from zero planning and no expectations.
- Shade, water, aspect, view are all important to life, health and well-being.
- In running, hiking and life: stop, take a moment, and look behind you. The view is always surprisingly spectacular.
- Having fitness and health opens up your life to amazing experiences.
- Things break if you force them. Be careful, understand the problem and use controlled strength, not force.
- TV seeps the life out of you.... not having it for 9 months was bliss
- Hearing the news daily does not make you feel better about yourself or the world.... not having it for 9 months was bliss
- Sickness does not have to be part of your life. We were the healthiest we have ever been with no sickness other than teething pain for Archie.
- Daycare and modern life gives you no opportunity to get 'better'.
