Just met the trip and there is a mixture of nationalities and ages. I'm not the oldest or the youngest by a long way, there is mix of Aussies, Canadians and British, oh and a American. There is quite a few Aussie woman on it so it should be interesting as they normally hardcore and usually nothing seems to faze them. The American guy had his baggage lost by his airline so he went shopping last night, he's bought some quite interesting clothes it has to be said. I felt quite sorry for him until he told me how much he was getting from his insurance and airline, $6000, i would be straight on that if it happened to me. Imagine the wardrobe you could get, could also do the bathroom up too and go on another holiday.
The first meal out was quite nice, i had green curry which was ok but had an aniseed taste to it which i cant recall having the last time i had it. After the meal I went for a stroll down Koh San Road with the Aussies, they were the ones that dragged me to eat scorpion, it tasted good, like pork scratching or bacon. If there is ever a shortage of pork, scorpions could be the future. The girls bought two and shared them out, I had the tail and a bit of abdomen. the only thing that did my head in with it was getting bits of shell stuck in between my teeth. i think they are planning a different insect in each city we visit so could have a few extra ones to add to the list. We were going to see a ping pong show too, which was the aussie girls idea but that didn't come off as we were too far away from it...or so I was lead to believe.
That last room wasn't that bad, it was basic, I forgot to mention in the last post that our room even has its own fuse box. I discovered it thinking that it may be I was opening a cupboard but the fuse box fell out, I just pushed all back in and everything continued to work so it should be ok.
Today i've made the journey to Cambodia, i orignally thought/read that we were getting a public bus, but that changed to a private mini bus. Crossed the border into Cambodia ok, a little stricter than I imagined it too be, but everything was ok. I did notice that there is a difference in poverty to Thailand...you get the whole family including the toddlers on a moped instead of one or two in Thailand and the quality of the housing is great. We changed from our private mini bus to a private bus in Cambodia (see picture), if this is private I'm looking forward to the public bus it should be a good experience. Not long after we had set off we were pulled for speeding by the police, I think the driver was doing 70kph in a 60kph. I thought it was quite advanced having speed traps in such a poor country, i wasnt expecting that. The driver paid the fine of $2.5 dollars and let us get on his way, I suppose that isn't too bad.
As its the first day I've been out in the sun i noticed the heat properly today. i think it is 35 degrees and the humidity is up in the 90's. Someone said that they had read that it feels like 48 degrees, I'm not sure if that is so, it must be bad as the cambodian tour guide said he was struggling and he lives here.
I arrived at the hotel, this room had a fridge, air con and a fan and is painted a bright yellow so this must be a 2 star luxury. Early start tomorrow to see the Angkor Wat temple so looking forward to it

Rob O Sounds like the trip is going well! Hope the Aussie women aren't too old, I know your thoughts on the more senior Aussie female!!! Looking forward to the next instalment.
Alex B Scorpion scratchings! It's the furture....Mmm :-)
Katrina Ah, my daily dose of Nokes. Sound like your having a good time, "with the ladies"and on best behavior. Looking forward to a Nokesy rant, give it a week.
Kevin Ah nostalgia! Did you get there via the 5 hour drive on dirt road with potholes every 50m!? or has that been done up now? AW is amazing and in the middle of a 20km2 complex, hopefully you'll have others included like The Bayon & Angkor Thom.
Burger Eh up Noko. I remember traveling on little Thai buses across Thailand and Malaysia. Interesting trips. Am loving the insects, can't wait to hear what's next! Keep me posted with the Aussie birds.
Andrew If you get on well with the Aussies, maybe they'll invite you to go down under !!!
Ralph Another great post Steve. I'll restrain myself this time in case people think I'm only interested in smut.
stevennokes Thanks for all your comments, I'm really glad that people are reading and writing to me. Kevin the road has been improved if it is the same road. AW was amazing place too
