I arrive safe and sound at 8am in Peru´s second largest city, Arequipa. Catching a cab to the hotel with Eric from Bermuda (nobody in Peru has heard of Bermuda) we settle in and walk around the city for the day. The architecture is quite appeasing to the eye and is Colonial at it´s best. Theres not much to see here in the way of tourist attractions except for overpriced museums so we mosey through local markets and treat ouselves to pastries and beverages......

This is going to be quick because I´m a bit behind.I arrived in Nazca after another joyeous night bus. Seriously, I usually sleep pretty well on them. As soon as I arrived in Nazca, which is a small place, I jumped in a taxi with some Columbians and we were at the airport. For USD50 we got a 35min plane ride over the Nazca lines in a tiny 4 seater, which got knocked around by the slightest puff of wind...and let´s just say that I was thankful for the little ...

It´s time to trek into the Cordillera Blanca mountain range in central Peru. I arrive in Huaraz (altitude roughly 3200m), which is a nice little base for getting into the mountains. After being hassled by many a tout on the street I bump into the Guiding Agency and book the Santa Cruz trek. It´s a four day trek and is popular for good reason....it´s amazingly beautiful. We head off at 6am on the Wednesday and have a 3 hour drive up to our starting point ...

I actually manage some sleep on the night bus to Trujillo and feel up to a days activities. I hook up with a young American couple and we plan to hit the Moon Temple and Chan Chan before catching another night bus to Huaraz at 9pm. Now thats efficient travelling. Another Combi and we arrive at the site of the Moon and Sun temples, again by the Chachopoyan people although they later abandoned these sites for the city of Chan Chan at around 1000AD. From Chiclayo I decide to ride the night bus to Chachapoyas, which is inland about 10 hours. The bus ends up being top quality and we even get served a lovely stir fry on board by a hostess. I´m impressed. Would have been better with a few wines but beggars can´t be choosers.
