An easy day's cycling today, what with Nice almost within sight and the only thing left to do is to explore Monte Carlo, go around the F1 GP circuit and start thinking about from where to purloin cardboard (to box up the bikes for the plane).
From Sanremo, we pedalled along the coast and into France at Menton. The coastal route was very up and down - like the rest of the riviera the mountains rise out of the sea, leaving only a narrow coastal strip into which all the towns, tourists, roads and money has to be shoehorned.
We stopped at Menton for a picnic lunch but no sooner had we finished eating than it started to rain, so we decided to stop in the town here rather than push on, in the wet, to Monaco. We've plenty of time in hand, so our lack of progress doesn't really matter.
Menton is a nice enough place to stay. I'd never heard of it. Wikipedia lists it's claim to fame as having an annual festival of lemons.
The 'Idiot Tans' (photoed) are coming along well.
