Steve and Lorna gallavanting around the world
After a very bendy 3hr minibus journey from Chiang Mai we arrived in the hippy village called Pai feeling a little seasick!
Pai really was everything we hoped it would be. It was a groovy chilled out village up in the mountains. We stayed in a lovely hippy style commune of bamboo huts. We had to cross a very wobbly bamboo bridge to get form the village to our huts. Cool! The huts had a large bamboo decking area with people horizontal listening to cool music. We knew straight away we were going to like this place.
The village was full of LITTLE cafe's, restaurants, shops and bars. Most of which were full of cushions to relax on. Once on the floor in these places you were there for the day and night!
From Pai we did a 2 day trek with 'Pat' our local guide to a Lanhu village. The trek was amazing. Definitely not a well tourist trodden route. Pat was cutting our way through the dense forest with his machete. Once at the village we were greeted by many of the locals. Many of which came out especially to greet us, or just stare at us as we were white! This village has not seen many Westerners. We had a lovely dinner prepared in the smokey hut. After a few hours with the locals we were given blankets to sleep with. These people are very friendly.
The next morning Steve was covered in VERY itchy bed bug bites!!! Uuuurrgghhhh. OOOoowwwwwww. It felt like I had chicken pox.
We left the Lahru village and trekked for another few hours before heading back to Pai. Apart from the bites, the trekking really was a cool experience!
Back in Pai, we spent the night with Simon & Nicki, the cool guys we met on our trek, aswell as catching up with Bel & Pete. It was a rather late night drinking the famous buckets!!!! (Local whisky, redbull & coke). The next day was pretty much written off. We spent it chilling with everyone else. Pai is a place people come to for a few days and stay for months!
We have booked a night train to Bangkok, we would love to get lost here but our around the world trip beckons...
