'HEEAAYYYY MONA! OOOOOHHHH MONA! Craig McCloughlin - Get In! He's an Aussie and he kept us entertained on our long journeys up the east coast of Oz in our camper along with other not so successful artists from the 1990s. Me and Alex were fed up of the s***e radio - when we could get a signal - that we decided we'd try and find some tapes. So for the last few weeks, as well as our 'best of the 1990s' tape we've been beltin out good old Bon Jovi and Roxette and we've been getting some right looks from the locals pulling up along side us looking at the pommes screaming their head off to 'Bed of Roses' and 'She's got the look'. But despite the looks and on many occasion losing our voices - not always due to singing, more to, on the odd occasion, having dissagreements with each other - WE MADE IT!!! We got all the way up to Cairns in northern Queensland where we would see the Great Barrier Reef!
On our final day travelling up to Cairns from Townsville we were quietly hoping that the weather would change and we would have some sun. We were dissappointed - we couldn't even see the sky. Cairns is surrounded by hills on three sides and we couldn't even see the top of them. We ended up playing squash for something to do. I tell thi what though, we both enjoyed it we had a reyt work out, had a reyt sweat an all! We haven't been able to do much else due to the weather we've had - we've been to the cinema loads, we played tennis (without trainers - poor feet!) and read loads of books.
Anyway, then Shelly arrived (Alex's friend) and she brought the weather with her and we decided to drive a little further north to Port Douglas. We stopped off at a river where we all went for a swim and I got stranded on a rock - there was a mad under current, it wa funny! Anyway Port Douglas - this is where a few people have recommended us to scuba dive the Great Barrier reef. So we booked the tour and arrived early the following day at the Marina - ready to board 'SilverSonic'. I tell thi what an all - it wa a beauty! The boat took us to three scuba sites and me and Alex were able to dive at the first site. We went through all the safety stuff and very slowly made our way down with the tanks on our backs. It was pretty scary at first I must admit - but once we got down there - it was absolutely AMAZING - WOW, it really was! It was another world - absolutely beautiful! I took with me an underwater camera and went a bit trigger happy but hopefully managed to take some descent pictures. I had a bit of a scare when I saw people pointing at something behind me and as I turned round I could see - at what - a f***ing shark!!!! - Not its proper name I'm sure but anyway I got my camera wound up ready and thrust it in front of my goggles to focus on taking a picture. I took the picture. Then as I pulled the camera away the shark was well near my face - the cameras focus made it look further away - I absolutely s*** it! When we made it to the second site Alex and I snorkelled for a bit and then at the third site we decided we'd pay the extra to do a third dive - it was absolutely excellent - I'll definately do it again!
Then Alex, Shelly and I went for my farewell meal! Then went to a bar and, once again, met up with cat and Ling and we had a really good - mad night. Then the following day Alex and Shelly came to the airport to wave me off. Me and Alex got a bit emotional - I must admit I really will miss her, we had some silly arguements towards the end but it doesn't take anything away from what an absolutely amazing time we've had together. We really have seen some beautiful places and done some absolutely amazing things. I've loved every minute!
And now I'm in Bangkok! My God this is a wierd place! I've only been here a day after the worst flight of my life - I hated that I'm not kiddin! But aye I made it and I'll be starting my tour of Thailand tomorrow - can't wait!
