I got a bus direct from Gaborone to Jo'burg - yet again the border crossing was without event - well I did get in trouble for taking pictures of the welcome to South Africa sign (I was made to delete them). I was really fortunate because one of girls I had travelled with was from Johannesburg and she very very kindly offered to let me stay at her house. So after a long bus journey (actually it was only like 7 hours) I got to Stefs house where I went for a swim in their massive swimming pool. I was really surprised by how beautiful Jo'burg was (I have been before but I don't remember it being so green - but it is summer now). We spent the afternoon in the park (all nice and safe no robberies or anything). That night we went for the most amazing curry (definitely the best curry I have ever had outside of Manchester). The next day we visited the Apartheid museum - which is a fairly famous world renowned museum - I was really keen to go as I visited on my previous South Africa trip but was incredibly hung over and therefore unable to take in very much and left quite soon after getting there - which was a shame but I'm glad I was able to return because it is an excellent museum, really interesting and it's hard to believe it occurred so recently!
For my last night in South Africa (actually Africa) we had a braii (barbeque) which was awesome! Loads of meat and a few beers what better way to finish off my 8 weeks in Africa.
I have enjoyed my time in Africa so so much. Everything about it exceeded my expectations. I have said many times that I wish I'd planned to spend longer here but it's a big world out there and I'm sure/hopeful that the rest will be just as amazing. I have already started planning my next African trip! Each country had something different to offer and I enjoyed all of them for different reasons. Malawi was definitely my favourite country - and it's difficult to say why because it's the country where I did the least but the people are so friendly and there is a really laid back feeling to the country. Tanzania was a really special country for me, it was my first stop, I learned to dive and I climbed Kilimanjaro. I really loved my experiences in Zambia, the national park was amazing and Livingstone is an awesome city (swimming on top of the falls and white water rafting are some of the highlights of my trip).Botswana then provided some time for contemplation, time to reflect on what I'd seen and done and the amazing trip into the delta. South Africa wasn't really meant to be part of the trip it was just a convenient end point but because of the people I've met along the way it was an added bonus to the trip.
I had so many expectations and worries about coming away; I put quite a lot of effort into saving to get here and there is always the worry that I might not actually have enjoyed it - however the whole experience has surpassed everything I'd hoped it would be! I met a lot of great people who I shred my experience with and they enhanced the trip forme no end. I am now incredibly excited about the next leg of the trip especially since so many of my awesome friends from home are coming to meet up with me!
