We hired a slightly bigger car than usual as now there were 3 of us and as we were driving the Great Ocean Road we presumed that we would be spending quite a bit of time in it. Our first task was to find our way out of Melbourne and make our way to the start of the road at Torquay. Luckily for us the owner of our hotel gave us really easy directions so we didn't need to rely on my (Stephen) sense of direction. We had booked 2 nights in Apollo Bay so we headed there stopping on the way for some fish and chips in Lorne (they were lovely) and at a lighthouse on Split Point. We arrived just in time for a brief tour and a trip to the top. Our flat had a DVD player in it so we hired 'Kenny' so Nick could learn a few more Aussie phrases. Next day we headed off to the '12 Appostles' (see photo), Loch Ard Gorge and 'London Bridge' all really beautiful natural rock formations. Unfortunately the weather took a turn for the worse and it poured down all afternoon, they need it here as the bush fires are raging out of control. On the drive back Nick and Jo spent their time wisely - on a wild animal lookout (they did spot Koalas and Kangaroos one Koala was so close to the road he could have been hitchhiking)
