So, yes, as expected I have been procrastinating!
How do i even begin to explain this place?! Its crazy but wonderful at the same time. Basicly, I am living/working with the craziest Greek family I have ever met in my life! Luckily, there are 14 other workers like myself and we somewhat try to keep eachother sane. tho hostel is awesome because its seriuosly rigth on the ocean. I look out my bedroom window in the morning and there it is. BAM! But, then the day begins and thats a whooooole different story. My job is to cook for all the staff, family and guests, then clean up all the dishes by hand! No dishwasher, all the laundry is done by hand, we cook and bake evvverything and I mean everything AND we don't waste anything, not even a crumb.
Martha is a good friend that I've made here (she works the cooking shift with me and we have such a blast with it!) I've learned so much here, from making cheese to milking cows, picking fruits and veggies, making jam, bread and caring for 50 people on a daily basis. Whew! Talk about heavy duty house work! Oh, and we take care of the two children throughout the shift catering to their every need (one is autistic and the other is just badly spoiled) and also making various old people food for the 80 year old delirious Ya Ya that shuffles around all day.Its been an EXPERIENCE let me tell you. And if you sense a hint of bitterness in my tone, don't take it the wrong way I really really love what I'm doing here, I'm just usually delirious after an 8 hour shift in 112 degree weather with NO AIRCONDTIONING ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! Never complain about heat again! This morning I almost jumped out of the kitchen window into the ocean down below, but ya ya was in the way so I spared her the horrification of my self-deffication. Although, she probably wouldn't notica anyway.
I have so many increadible and amazing stories to tell and write about this place from crazy dorm-mates practicing magic tricks on me in the middle of the night to exotic midnight bonfires on the beach illumintated by thousands upon thousands of undiscovered stars and galaxies. I just can't wait to see you all in person to share in detail the beauty of Greece and its amazing people, pride and culture. Wow, it really truly is amazing here. I am sad to leave... Up next, the boat trip back to Venice and then to Geneva!
