I wrote a blog post yesterday, but will post it once arriving in the U.S.
Today was great. We woke up to beautiful weather, a tropical fruit breakfast and a stroll to the nearest beach. I have uploaded a photo of the beach on my Facebook page! Whilst it's apparently not Fiji's finest, it was still pretty spectacular. The water was really warm, sand gleaming white, lots of Fijian children playing. Not only is the beach stunning, but also the mountains that cover the backdrop of it!
On the way home we were approached by an interesting taxi driver. We were pretty reluctant to get in to his vehicle, but he was persuasive and we got in. We knew he was probably going to scam us for money, maybe he was a criminal D: but that's all part of the learning curve. Fortunately he was a great guy who showed us around the area - we saw a Hindu temple, which is apparently the biggest in the southern hemisphere, a real Fiji village, drove up a hill to look down on the surrounding islands, drove up to some mountains, and back through the main town here and to our hotel. As we drove around he also explained a lot of stuff to us too, like what crops were what, interesting facts about life in Fiji such as what the biggest exports are, how NZ is helping to build the roads here (AWW NZ<3), and ways to get around the place.
The biggest thing I learnt today is that, after moaning about how poor and scary Fiji seems to be, it actually adds to the country's charm. The roads here are pretty shabby, lots of horrible looking houses and so on, but all the people here are always so happy and friendly! Literally every single person you walk past says "Bula" (hello) with a big grin, and are always willing to help. The people here LOVE Fiji for what it is, and that has made me open my eyes and be more accepting of a place that is not the same as what I have exposed to in the past.
So Fiji is definitely growing on me quickly. I said it looks exploited when I wrote yesterday, but it also has a lot of beauty. There are sugar cane fields everywhere, beautiful beaches (although apparently the best is still to come), and amazingly friendly people.
Tomorrow will be amazing - we have booked a days trip to some of the smaller private islands where we will have access to unlimited drinks (alcoholic included!), snorkelling, a semi-submersible, and so on. So keep watching this space, as I'm sure I will have absolutely stunning photos to share with you all tomorrow.

Mum Sounds beautiful sweetheart - it's amazing how many different cultures are so different to our own :) ... great that you are meeting the locals too! ... too many of these resorts keep the paying tourists separate - good on ya!! ... look after yourself, and take care snorkelling (knowing how good at swimming you are!) .... love you ... Nan Sounds wonderful and a good place to relax I would think, a semi submersible sounds great look forward to the pictures of that. Bit concerned that you got in a taxi with a possible ciminal, obviously the multitude of 'Stay Safe' messages bypassed you lol love you xxxxxx
