We were awake early - before the 7am knock on the door having got into a routine over the last few days. As a reminder that we were in a lodge, not a hotel, we still had to make our sandwiches to eat when we got back on the bus later on, and our breakfast plates had to be returned to a plate station.
We had to give back our rucksacks and other borrowed items and get our goods ready for QT in a carrier bag to go on the coach before we left for a cruise of Milford Sound. The place was named after Milford Haven in Wales funnily enough.
The clouds had come in, and the very day we were able to stay indoors on the boat and coach was the day it decided to bucket down! The up-side of this was that hundreds of previously hidden waterfalls had come out to play!
The Port building at MS was very grand, probably a reflection of how many visitors they get coming through now (either that or built in anticipation of the rugby world cup tourism!). The boat wasn't too crowded, so views were good from inside. It was still worthwhile going on the upper deck to see more closely the various waterfalls, the seals and the penguins, but we did get drenched by the rain and waterfalls.
Back on land, our coach was waiting to take us back to QT via Te Anau. The drive back from Milford Sound to TA was amazing; more waterfalls, evidence of rock and tree avalanches and generally stunning scenery. We stopped midway for a comfort break and were given our brown lunch bags before continuing the journey.
The final half of the journey was soporific, and saw a lot of people drop off - some looking very uncomfortable. Eventually though, we arrived back in QT, and the final farewells were said, although the Ozzies said they were meeting up for a pizza later on in The Cow, so we decided to join them. Had a slow afternoon, going for churros and coffee in Patagonia café to write postcards, where we bumped into John, Pam and the Swedes, and then on to dinner. A reasonably nice meal, although we paid more than our fair share, and then back to bed in the hostel, which was bustling and far more busy than last time - including some late night drunks returning after midnight! For shame!
