We had a lie in this morning which was so good! We also found out the boys went wandering in the night to where the camels were and tried to sit on a baby camel. The camel farmer came to our camp and Stu got stuck in the middle of it all as the other boys ran away! Derek told the farmer Stu got involved with the wrong guys from another tour company Rock Tours, (I'll get to why they are a bad company soon).
We were finally on our way to our next camp, Kings Creek. It wasn't too long of a drive compared to our other journeys! We had lunch when we arrived and headed off to Kings Canyon for our walk!
The six km (loop) Kings Canyon Rim Walk traces the top of the canyon and takes three to four hours to complete. A steep climb at the beginning of the walk, which locals call "Heartbreak Hill" (or "Heart Attack Hill", due to its steepness)!
The first part of our walk we had to walk up an extremely steep hill. It was pretty horrible but I was impressed with myself as I didn't have to stop once! The last time I climb something this steep I had an asthma attack!! We eventually reached to top and the view was pretty amazing!
About half way during the walk, a detour descends to Garden of Eden, a permanent waterhole surrounded by lush plant life. The last half of the walk passes through a large maze of weathered sandstone domes.
Derek told us to stick together with him as it is very dangerous, so dangerous that a girl four weeks before we left Melbourne fell to her death. It didn't help the tour she was on Rock Tours, encourage the tourist to do stupid stunts and jumps near the canyon edge. So don't travel with Rock Tours peeps!
It was an easier walk around the top of the canyon, pretty flat but there was still plenty of rocks to trip over! Stu was paranoid about me tripping over and stuck to me like glue! It was a great walk around the canyon we could see all the different coloured rocks on the walls of the cliff where rocks have called from the cliff face.
There was some Americans walking around and one of the guys was trying to show off and kept doing back flips near the cliff edge for a photo. I couldn't watch!
We did come across the location of where the British girl had fallen to her death, there is a 30ft drop from where she fell. It was pretty horrible thinking about it. I hope the tour company get shut down for this.
We enjoyed our three hour walk, Stu enjoyed it more than the base camp walk as there was rocks to climb over etc! We drove back to camp and helped make our last supper and had stories round the camp fire. We slept in the kitchen area as it was threatening to rain.
