We left Nha Trang on Friday night for our overnight train to Hoi An. We weren't really nervous about the journey as we had already been on one sleeper train which was alright, so we sort of knew what to expect, but we were definitely wrong! Everyone crammed onto the train and we all got told to move off as people had tried to take our cabins. When we finally got into our cabin, it really, really smelt, there were cockroaches everywhere, it wasn't nice! Then Steve, our tour guide tells us that the train is going to be very crowded and people will be sleeping in the corridors with the intention of stealing when the tourists are sleeping, so we have to be very careful with our valubles. We did lock the door, but the door did shake quite a few times during the trip, so not sure if it was just the bumpy journey or someone actually trying to get in!
Anyway, we arrived in Hoi An at around 11am and took a little walk around the place. Very different to everywhere we had been in Vietnam before. A lot more calm and quiet. Although, the downside is that it's suddenly become really, really cold! We knew the further north we got the colder it was going to get, we were all told that Hanoi was where it would become cold and apparantly it is strange for it to be this cold here. So I've had to go out and buy a scarf to prepare myself!
We then came back to our loooovely hotel! Best hotel so far! We actually have a PROPER shower and a bathtub! Haha, sounds crazy to be excited by something like that! But you really do miss the luxuries when you're away. I also got my washing done today, which was VERY exciting!!!
Anyway...after our walk around the town, we all went out for dinner as a group to one of the local restaurants. I had sweet and sour pork, which wasn't too fantastic to be honest, but it was okay. A few of us then decided that we were going to do a 'cooking course' on vietnamese food. So we all make 5 dishes each, then later eat it ourselves for dinner...that should be interesting! We're doing it tonight at 7pm, so that should be fun!
After dinner, I was still pretty hungry...So I treated myself to a chocolate cheesecake which was AMAZING! First chocolate I've had here (well, apart from oreos, which I pretty much survive off!)and we just had a relaxing night in the hotel which is what I definitely needed.
Tomorrow, we've got a 3 hour journey to Hue. I'm not quite sure what there is to do there, but I'm sure there's something around which I'll be able to inform you all of!
