the golden temple was a winner with us. However I got lost on the way back. the philosophers walk is aptly named. so many people you are forced to walk with the bunched up groups. A flood of humanity!

Imperial Palace = former Edo Castle of the Tokugawa Shogun in ruins. There is nothing Palace-ish comparable to absolute monarchies in Europe; The Japanese "Emperor" has never been an absolute monarch; he is a "symbol" in present-day Japan, and the Edo Castle of the Shogun had been destroyed several times, even before Tokyo became ashes in WW2.
But anyway, enjoy your trip (most important)!

”Places for people who cannot go home" = at a time of disasters when transportation stops, especially in occurrence of big earthquakes.

Thank you for your comment. We definitely will be back, as we've still got 1000 things left to explore, and we love the country so much. I'm not sure I could live there permanently, but Japan is still a fascinating place to visit. (Plus I'm missing Coco Curry and Bikkuri Donkey already).
