I've said it before and I'm sure I'll say it again "any day you visit a new country is a good day", unfortunately it didn't start so well. I got up, packed then was taken to the airport by the family....then the wheels fell off. Being a good little munchkin I was third in line at the Air Pacific check in que. I was summoned by the check in lady, approached the desk, put my pack in on the belt and asked for an isle seat. She flipped through my documents and my passport and then asked for my e-ticket. I pointed out that I had just given her an itinerary (with confirmation number) and my photo idea and that my ticket was an e-ticket. She said that I needed a paper copy of my e-ticket (I did think this was quiet amusing and kinda defeated the purpose of the exercise) but she was addiment. She showed me her screen which confirmed by booking and e-ticketing but said I also needed a paper copy. Logically I asked her to print it, she queries this with her supervisor and said that she couldn't. At this time I was starting to get a bit stressed. Luckly there was a Flight Center at the airport which was open on Sunday and consented to print me the not-so-e-ticket. The stunning thing was the difference between the e-ticket and the itinerary I had presented originally - it contained an additional two lines, one with the ticket number that had appeared on her screen!!!! I got back to the que which had now grown to the full complement of 230 passengers and eventually got through with a few more grey hairs for the experience.
The highlight of the flight (other than it was only 2h 45min) was seeing the mooring at Peel Island where we had lunch on Pat's yacht yesterday - it was fun and now I want to spend at least one day this week under sail.
By the time I got to the backpacker's at NadiI had chilled from my earlier experience and the sun was setting. I dumped my bags in the room and headed out the back, through the pool area and onto the beach. It was an absolutely stunning sunset across the bay so I got a Fiji Bitter from the bar sat on the sand and enjoyed. The day did improve.
