Once again we have a very short travel day. We planned to spend the night at Waterford Visitor Center. It is the start of the Erie Canal, and they have free dockage. If you want electric it is $10 per night. The only catch is they do not take reservations. We panned to get there early in the hopes that there was room for both Inconseavable (Matt & Ilene) and us.
Between Albany and Waterford we have our first lock of the trip. The Troy Federal Lock, located in Troy NY. It is a very easy lock with a 14 foot lift and pipes recessed in the lock wall to secure our boat to. Waterford, is a quick 2 miles past the lock.
Arriving at Waterford, there was about 90 feet of dock space available. Together Inconseavable and Nothing To Plunder take up about 95 feet, not including any space between us. Once we were tied up, we took our dinghy off the back of our boat, and barely fit between us. Their bow was hanging over our swim platform, and the boat behind them was hanging over their swim platform. Several people took pictures saying they never saw boats tied up so close. We forgot to take pictures. A couple hours after we docked the boat behind Inconseavable left, and they were able to move back.
The best part of Waterford was seeing Sue T. Sue is Bill T's Mom, who lives in Jefferson NY, and drove to see us. We have not seen her since before Covid, and it was great to see her again. While we waited for Sue to arrive, we strolled through the popup market on the waterfront.
Tomorrow we start our journey down the Erie Canal
