SO it has been awhile since I last updated the blog. Traveling every day, sometimes it is hard to do the updates, then once you are two or three stops behind, it is impossible to catch up.
This post is going to cover 6 stops and 7 days. I am not going into a lot of detail about each stop, but I will try to keep the blog updated after this.
There were a couple of rough travel days. One day we traveled through 6 locks and it was very windy, and another day we had 8 locks. On the day it was windy, we had a particularly hard time, and got blown off the lock wall into the other side. Luckily I was able to get to the helm, and move the boat forward before we hit the boat alongside of us. My favorite saying is "Some days you watch the show, Some days you are the show, And if you are not watching the show, you are the show. That day we were definitely the show.
In the last couple of days, the weather has improved greatly. The weather has not been bad, but it had been cooler and windy. The last three days have been sunny with light winds.
We mostly stopped at the same locations as we did during our loop trip. One of the biggest disappointments was the marina in Utica NY is now closed. That is where we stop to visit my mom. I am hoping that the marina is open on our return trip.
Because we could not stop in Utica, we proceeded to Rome, where we tied up to a free dock. Bellamy Park in Rome has seawall that is several hundred feet long with free electric. The problem is the wall is in very poor condition. The timbers that line the wall are falling off, and it can be difficult to get off the boat. They also have 150 feet of floating docks, but there is no electric. We decided that it was not worth having electric and went with the floating docks. The best part of Rome was the small festival that was going on in the park.
We also stopped in Sylvan Beach again this year. It was a great stop, when we did the loop not much was open in Sylvan Beach, it was a couple days earlier in the season. Between that and Covid, it was quite stop. This year we arrived during their "Opening Weekend". It was fun playing in the arcade where the games are still a quarter. The highlight of Sylvan Beach was when I won $350 in the casino.
We are now In Cape Vincent on the free Village Dock. Last time we were here it was a 150' long fixed dock, that was very nice. This time is a brand new 200' floating dock with electric. They are supposed to have water but it is not hooked up yet. It was a very pleasant surprise to find they have electric. Cape Vincent is a cute town. We spent the afternoon exploring by bike, and the evening checking out the local brewery and American Legion.
Our stop is Clayton NY, it is only a 12 mile ride.
