Patagonia 2020
We are here in San Pedro on Lake Atitlan, a large and beautiful lake ringed with ridges and volcanoes. San Pedro is an energetic town of local Guatemalans, tourists, students and hippies. We have found an instant warm home with our family of Conchita (young madre), Chusita (9 yr girl) and Blanca (2 year old girl). Being in their home is a wonderful experience already as we share all meals and conversation (NO ENGLISH) which helps our studies immensely.
We have been here 5 days and have attended our 4 hour classes on Thurs and Fri, one evening conversation group, one salsa dance session, toured a coffee bean processing plant here in San Pedro (organic, sustainable) , viewed a Catholic pre-Easter procession traveled by boat to a town across the lake to meet the friend of a friend from Truckee! Whew.
San Marcos, across the lake is a small community filled with new age hippies, old hippies and moneyed expats. Totally different vibe, dude, from the bustle of San Pedro. There are several separate communites around this lake, each with a different personality. We have heard that locals in San Marco have less opportunites in education and economy (even food) than San Pedro, for example.

Julia Lawrence It is so nice to see the photos capturing your adventures. The fish dish looks similar to the ones Steve and I ate while in Honduras. How lovely to have such a wonderful family, in such a beautiful setting to share you time with there. Looking forward to reading more. Julia and Steve
