The service on Qatar airways is amazing. I would recommend anyone to fly with them, and they have been voted as the best airline for the last two years. When looking for flights, they were also the cheapest that I could find at around £630.00.
When you have boarded and seated they come around asking if you would like any newspapers, they also come around giving out nuts to all passengers. Once the plane has taken off they come around again asking you if you would like a drink. I have a vodka and coke - it's free and you cannot refuse free alcohol. They also hand out hot lemon towels which you can use, which is a nice touch.
Dinner is served two hours into service and it was surprisingly nice. There were 2 options you can choose from, and I had chosen beef, however I didn't realise it came with horseradish, and cannot stand that. I ask if I can swap for the chicken, where the lady then informs me there is non-left, even though she had just offered it to me. I agree on the vegetarian option (I don't know what this is); where the other air steward informed her that she had one chicken left. I was given the chicken meal which was apparently the last one on the flight, and was rather happy.
It was an Indian style dish with a chicken breast, curry style sauce and spicy rice which was hot. I actually really enjoyed this, and normally plane food is rank. On the side there is a mixture of sundried tomatoes, peas and onions which was ok; I'm not really keen on peas. There was a sponge cake for dessert with a small bar of chocolate. There was also a small pot of water; however you are offered a drink from the cart. On the tray there is also a packet which includes a knife, folk, spoon, salt and pepper, napkins and toothpicks.
Service is ended with another round of hot towels, and they dim the lights to allow passengers to sleep. All passengers are given a pillow, headphones and a blanket so make you more comfortable.
It's quite a turbulent plane ride which I don't really like, (and I know my mum would hate!) and I'm sat right on the engine and wing which means it's extra noisy, which makes it even harder to sleep.
I am one of those people who cannot sleep on planes, and end up watching a number of movies throughout the flight. The entertainment system is pretty good, which really up to date movies which is nice. I watched the new die hard and Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, it's nice to be able to watch something up to date,
I get no sleep and at around midnight we land in DOHA.
DOHA is the most manic airport I have ever been in, (I know it's not many) but Christ they changed my flight 5 like 3 times. No one was really helpful and after being on a 7hr flight, and running around this airport with a hand bag and hand luggage that was heavy I wasn't a happy chappy. I finally find my gate after going from one end to the airport to another, to find myself in a whole mass of people. There is no queuing system, you just push your way through where you give your ticket to someone and you go down the stairs into a cramped room and wait. I wait in this room for around 20 minutes, and meet this lovely lady who lives in Johannesburg; she is really friendly and helps me with my luggage. We end up sitting near each other on the plane which is nice but everyone is so tired most of them fall asleep. Luckily I had a whole row of seats to myself, which allows me to spread right out, and try to get to sleep. I end up watching Les Mes, which I know Halle will laugh at, but it did make me fall asleep throughout most, my flight.
The flight landed around 8am, so everyone is woken up around 6am to start breakfast. I have had around 4 hours sleep, look like crap and probably smell like it too. Breakfast is something that I really didn't take too. It was like an omelette which chicken in, a pork sausage and like a pancake. It was rather weird and didn't really eat it. However the bread and croissant with jam was nice. You are again offered a drink from the cart. I really wanted a coffee, however I know that coffee plane is really bad!
The plane finally lands at Johannesburg and I'm rather happy to be able to get off a plane for an hour or so!
