Hey Everyone!
First of all, we'd like to apologise in advance as we have a feeling this could be a very long one!!!
We spent our last few days in Luang Prabang looking at the temples we'd missed including one which was on top of a hill from which you could see for miles. The temple itself wasn't overly spectacular but the setting and the views more than made up for its lack of wow factor. We also treated ourselves to some relaxation time where Sophie had a pedicure while Kie had a massage. After this we headed to the night market and fell in love with far too many items for sale!!! We managed to control our temptations and only bought a few hand painted canvas'.
The next day we woke up early ready to board our minibus to Vang Vieng only to find the bus was no longer running and that the owners brother would give us a lift in his 4x4 instead as he was going to a wedding in Vientiane. This, at first, wasn't a bad situation as the car would get there an hour earlier than the minibus would have and boy did we find out why!!!!!! The first part of the journey the driver spent his time swapping between two mobile phones and cleaning his ears with earbuds!!!!!! After about half an hour we entered the mountains which is where the onset of sharp corners, steep hills and winding roads began - this didn't seem to faze our driver as he carried on at great speeds, much to Sophie's disgust and Kie's discomfort when he hit his head on the roof as we flew over a bump!!! To make things worse, not only were we flying at speed but the road was on the edge of a sheer 200m drop which, if we'd have gone over, would have definitely been the end of us!! Nearing the end of the terrifying journey the driver stopped to pick up some oranges from a roadside stall whilst he was doing this his wife, who was sat quietly in the passenger seat for the whole journey, jumped out of the car in a hurry, scurried across the road and squatted down for a wee!!!!!!!!!! Cue Sophie almost wetting herself from laughter with tears streaming down her face, while Kie made jokes and didn't help the situation whatsoever. For example: Sophie not hearing what Kie said asked "What?" and got the response "Did you say 'Squat'?!?!" Ha ha.
Back on Terra Firma in Vang Vieng we set off to find a guesthouse when we were stopped by an English guy and his Laos boss who put us on the back of their pick up truck and took us a little out of town to 'Jammee Guesthouse', an unbelievable place with free wifi, tea, coffee and bananas! Jos, the English guy, even ordered us some food in! The room itself is unbelievably big with the biggest bed we've ever seen and another single bed - along with a mattress rested against the wall - sleepover in Room 5!!! There is also a big chill out area out the back which is amazing and you can find yourself quite easily staying there all day, daydreaming and looking at the beautiful surroundings.
Yesterday we ventured into what Vang Vieng is famous for - Tubing. At 11.30am we hired our tubes, got into a tuk tuk and headed towards the river. At the first bar we settled with a whisky bucket between us and lazed in the sun before Kie downed a bee vodka shot, went down the slide and headed to our next bar! At the next bar we found ourselves lounging in the sun for quite a while, Kie occassionally cooling off by doing the rope swing into the river!!! We met a few friends from the slowboat here and spent the rest of the day floating down the river and drinking buckets with them!! It was such an unbelievable experience and we're thinking of going again tomorrow. We're still not too sure how long we'll be here for but we're wanting to do the Blue Lagoon and caves before we leave.
Hope you're all ok and you like the pictures! We'll be updating you again shortly!
Lots of love Sophie and Kie xx
