We arrived in Hoi An and were dropped off at a hotel which looked well over our budget so we tried to get away from it but the guy said the room was only 8 quid a night which seemed great and there was a pool and free bicylcles to use so we took it and it was lovely. I had a bath on the first night and it was the best bath of my life, such a treat! hehe!
We got bikes shortly after we arrived and rode straight to one of the beaches, about 5km away. Really worth it when we got there, it was pretty much deserted and we just sunbathed for a few hours and then at about 4.30 it started to get really busy with Vietnamese families and people coming for a swim after work. It was funny as we were just about to leave as the sun was going and we had had enough of sunbathing! Riding back we definitely felt we were going in the wrong direction!
We walked in to town in the evening and treated ourselves to some posh cocktails and decided to get something small there and move to somewhere cheaper for dinner so we chose some delicious calamari. They also brought us some free snacks to try, soe potato and chilli fritters and homemade crisps with a lovely dip. we didnt need any more food after that....well except an icecream! Michael tried some fresh beer that is 13p for 2/3 pint!
The next day we got up and had breakfast which was also included in our price! Rented bikes and explored the ancient town and went over to this little island for some much needed lemon juice! yum! Then we rode the 6km journey to the other beach in Hoi An which is a little busier and there are big 5* resorts on the way. Another really good day.
In the evening we went down to the river on our bikes to have dinner. I got the most amazing grilled fish wrapped in banana leaves in a lemon sauce, so so so good. They even fillet it at your table. On our way to get our bikes from the parking place we saw the irish girls who had caught up with us and we arranged to see the in Nha Trang in a couple days!
We really love Vietnam so far, the people are so friendly and their attitude is so relaxed and you cant help joining in with them. They just want to help you and speak to you about themselves and ask questions....no hidden agenda which is such a breath of fresh air!
Today we are waiting for our 12hr bus ride to Nha Trang. We are just making our way down the country to Saigon stopping at a few beaches on the way. Nha Trang next , then Mui Ne and then we'll be in Saigon/Ho Chi Minh in about 1 week!
