Emma and Martin's Travels
Au revior people!
Well we in Cairns now, arrived on the 24th - the weather here is really humid and hot. When we arrived in at the Airport it was pouring with rain - and since it is the rainy season we have had a few heavy showers since then. Its not really bad tho - cause its still really warm when it rains and its actually quite refreshing - getting dry later can be a bit of a pain tho.
We are staying at a hostel called the Tropic Days - its quite nice, just on edge of town center. They give you a voucher for your dinner every night - you can get a free meal - we did on 1st night and it was tiny - or you can upgrade it for 4 dollars and you get much more - a crafty ploy but 4 dollars aint that much.
We booked a trip up to the Rainforest at the Atherton Tablelands - it roughly 900m above sea level and its really green and looks a wee bit like the highlands i suppose. We were with another 10 folk on the bus up all on same tour. On way up we stopped at a petrol station - it was really nice - you could get petrol and snack food there oooooooooo - after that excitment we went Lake Eacham for a swim - its the mouth of an old volcano or something and its been registered a world heritage site - was very nice. Next we stopped of at Millaa Millaa falls - thats where one of the timotie shampoo adverts was filmed - cause its rainy season the waterfall was really overflowing and powerful - thus the guide suggested we swim thru it - none of the girls were keen so me (thats Martin in case no-one was aware) the guide and two other chaps dived in - we had to swim around the waterfall then climb up the rocks behind then dive into the base of the waterfall. After diving in the water pushes you down for a few feet then you just pop up in the pool - it was pretty cool but the current was pretty strong. We went to another few waterfalls and the guide took us for a few walks thru the rainforest then we arrived at our hostel for the night. We also saw a duck-billed-platupus happy days!
Today we got up and went for a bike run down to Lake Eacham then kinda thru bits of the rainforest - then back to Lake Eacham for a swim. We were then taken for a walk around the lake then off for lunch.
After lunch we went to lake Tinabura where we got towed behind a speed boat on an inflatable ring - pretty good fun but the guys were flying round and it was pretty scary at bits. I then had a go a Wakeboarding - it like water-skiing but with a snowboard - it took me about 20+ attempts to get going but after that it was ok - i did wipe-out plenty and am pretty sore now.
We went back to the pub for our 4 dollar dinner and gonna fire back to hostel soon - its raining again!
The pic is off the barrier reef - we aint been there but it the closet pic to where we are.
Let us know how you all are.
Farewell
Martin & Emma x
