Well after leaving Kuala Lumpur (been there twice before so no need to write again), I made my way to Kochi, in South India.
I have been on many planes on all my travels and I still hate flying: yes hate!
The four hour trip was shaky the whole time, just when I could shut my eye, the plane shook nice and hard.
The last 10 minutes was hell; the plane started to make a weird noise and maybe 10 seconds later, the nose of the plane thrusts downwards, as you can see the cabin dip right down, and continued to jerk and shake hard for the next five minutes or so! That feeling of weightlessness on a plane is not a good one.....
And this was the start to India!
Once arrived I caught a cab to my hostel which was far from the airport.
Like China and most of SE Asia, India has only one road rule: there are none.
A crazy 30 minute drive that say many "close calls" before arriving at my hostel.
Felt good to crash on a bed and see what the morning brings.
In the morning I met an Indian from Mumbai who was a tourist just like me, so we went out around town together.
He has good English and just having an Indian with me on my first day, helped a boat load.
Off to Jew Town we went (funny name I know), as there use to be a small Jewish community in the old days.
Very colorful area with an old synagogue that we toured, with an expensive entrance fee of 5 rupees (10 cents), brought my budget crashing down.
We checked out an Old Dutch palace from the old colonial traders of the 1600-1800's!
Very unique set of collections of old Sultans clothes, furniture and weapons.
Heading next across the river, as old fort Kochi is a tourist area, the main town is the busy area.
Here, me and my new friend went to the train station to buy my ticket (complex to say the least).
Made our way back to the hostel to get a nap and shower (37 degrees gets you a little sweaty).
Walked around the famous Chinese fishing nets to get a glimpse of how they do this ancient fishing technique, hard to explain and easier to google.
Had some tasty curry and prawns and some naan bread, finished by a tasty mint tea.
Walked around by the beach to the see the locals swimming on the beach.
Relaxed out in the hostel and met a few German backpackers who I might meet up in the desert, later in my trip.
After a good night sleep, had a good Western breakfast, followed by a tasty chai tea (my Mumbai friend said it was very good, so I will trust him), went back and he went back to Mumbai...on a 30 hour train ride.
I head out soon to Goa on a 15 hour train ride as I get to experience my first train ride through India.
The next time you hear from me I will be on the amazing beaches of Goa ( don't feel bad for me) and relax a bit and soak up the Goan culture.
Take care for now!!
