Another early start for our coach pick up at 8.30am. Before we headed out towards Waitomo, we visited to Te Puia, which is New Zealand's most well known thermal area complete with geysers, boiling mud, a live Maori Arts and Crafts Centre and a kiwi bird house. It was a 90 mins guided tour. Luckily for us, our guide was easy to follow and was quite interesting to see all the thermal areas. To our surprise, it wasn't smelly as we have experienced around our hostel we stayed last night!
It was also good to see the endangered kiwi birds. We were expecting them to be smaller than we expected. Unfortunately we were unable to take photos of it as it was prohibited.
We moved on through Waikato and King Country before arriving to Waitomo. We arrived in good time to do the activities in the afternoon. We have booked ourselves into Black Water Rafting which is a 5 hour of adventures! Unfortunately we couldn't do it in the afternoon as its already fully booked so we will have to do it tomorrow morning at 7.45am!! In this activity, we will be doing abseiling, jumping off in waterfalls, seeing the glowworms, cave slide down a weir, and floating downstream! We are both looking forward to it!
After dropping a small group at the Black Water Rafting, we moved onto the hostel to check ourselves in. It took a long while to check in as there was only one staff working! We had a free afternoon to do what we want. We wandered around, visiting shops nearby. Daniel bought a t-shirt and a necklace for himself while Lisa bought a pair of earrings to replace the damaged earring hoops as mentioned previously in the thermal pool.
Tomorrow after doing the black water rafting, we will be moving onto Taupo where Lisa have already booked herself to do Sky Diving at 15,000ft. Lisa and Daniel have also booked themselves to do the Tongariro crossing, a day hiking across a volcano within the Tongariro National Park. Unfortunately for us, its another very early start!! Its at 6.25am!!
