After crossing the border we caught the train straight to our final hotel of the booked tour. This was situated in Kowloon, the main touristy section oif Hong Kong. Feeling a bit worse for wear after the long train ride the night before I really wanted to climb into bed, but we had just an hour to freshen up before heading out for lunch. Dodo had said that the restaurants here are very small so finding somewhere to house the whole tour group was slightly tricky! After a noodle lunch we took a wander through the popular ladies market where the difference between the markets here was that instead of them pulling at your clothes or your person to grab your attention they ignore you until you show an interest in their goods! Here, they also refuse to barter to the same excess as on Mainland China, so your best bet is to grab your bargains there and save some extra money for here!
Later that night we went out for our last night as a tour group, going for dinner and then on to see a brief lazer light show on the hills! Although the tour had been non stop and VERY tiring, we were sad that it was coming to en end as we had made some good friends and done alot together in a short space of time. To thank our smiley guide Dodo for all her help, some of us took her out for a drink at a downtown bar where we sipped cocktails for the equivalent of around 2-3 pounds. After saying our goodbyes we all went our seperate ways and off to bed :)
The following day Jack and I met with a few of the boys from the tour who were still in HK. We took the VERY steep cable car up to Victoria Peak where there is a large shopping mall/restaurants and a pretty view of the city. Jack and I were admiring the amazing house we could see from here complete with decked balconies and pools..we agreed that one day that would be us :)
As we had to leave the hotel that day, we had booked into a gursthouse named the Maple Leaf. Although Ellie had warned us that it wanst that nice we still decided to go and check it out as we had made reservations. The entrance to the place was like a huge indoor market where there were scary looking men doing dodgy handshakes left right and centre! The smell was like raw meat and spice and I have to say I was instantly put off! The real turn off about the place however, was the man in the lift who tried to sneakily stroke my arm whilst Jack, who towered above him was oblvious! Deciding that this was a bit too much for us to put up with we had a mad rush trying to get into another hotel, until finally getting a room at the Regal Oriental which was welcomingly PLUSH!
