We landed in Paris and were met by Ads and Abby. It was a slow drive down to Couleuvre as the Paris traffic was its usual terrible mess. Spencer and I dozed in the car and after a few hours, the French countryside began to look more familiar and we arrived in Couleuvre. Spencer was sooooo excited to see Harrison. Within minutes Spencer was playing with Harry and Abby's kids like they had known each other all their lives.
It was great to be back in Coleourve and see the progress that Ads has made with the house. It is going to be a very special place once it’s all finished.
That evening the kids played at the house (lots of free babysitting) and Ads, Abby and I went out to the local restaurant (le Kaolin). Great rustic French food and the locals are very funny - they all appear to be in love with Abby.
The next day was to be a day trip for some fun by the river. Alas, we were all packed up and ready to go except Abby’s car had a flat tire. With 9 of us we needed two cars and the wrench to get the tire off wasn’t working – oh well. We’d just have to have a picnic by the football field instead!
All the boys had a great game of football (10:8 to Ads team). Spencer and Harry were stars for both teams. We were getting a bit of rain so we walked back to the house (and had peek at the house Mum and Dad might buy) and I took a well needed nap.
When I awoke one of the local townsfolk who we met the previous night at dinner had invited himself over for a glass of wine and some petanque (Monsieur Lee). Ad’s backyard is a construction site so it makes for some "crazy petanque" or as the French would say “petanque bizarre” . It certainly helps your accuracy to have a glass of wine in your hand!
We finished off the night with a lovely chicken curry dinner, some shooting of Ad’s BB gun and watching the World Cup. It was our last night of the trip and 3 weeks of travel was catching up with us so it was an early night.
Next day we woke, packed our bags and said our goodbyes to Couleuvre. Ads and Abby drove us to Nevers to catch the train up to Paris (an easy 2 hours). We then caught a taxi to CDG airport and began our long flight home – Zurich – Singapore - Sydney.
