Hi all, Well this morning, 15th December, I drove from Te Anau to Manapouri to be able to board the "Fiordland Explorer" on an overnight cruise of Doubtful Sound. First we took a high powered catamaran accross lake Manapouri and then onto a coach for a 22km drive over the mountain, on a road only built in the 60s for the local HEP station which now produces something like 15% of all NZs power. Hi all, You may have guessed I have found a great internet sight with a bit of speed in Te Anau, so catching up with my blog. Only trouble is dont think they allow picture downlaods and so all the great photies I have may have to wait! Today was Friday 14th. Before getting smashede last night I went into the local tourism place (they are really great in NZ as its a big part of their economy) and booked an "Overnight" cruise of Doubtful Sound. There...

Well!! Woke up in Kaka Point early and got set for my raodtrip for the day. Drove the short distance to Nugget point and Rolling bay to see some sea lions....no penguins though! Then on and into the Catlins. What a beautiful place....it was like Devon...rolling hills, green and loads of sheep..... Stopped at Catherdral caves and went into them as it was low tide on the beach and made several other stops in the Catlins to see waterfalls andf beautiful beach scen...

Hi all, Got to see the penguins and they were really good.....all 200 came out of the water in groups of 20/30 like as if they were on que......walked straight in front of the viewing gallery to thier nesting homes. Great shame couldnt take any pictures, but there you go. Stayed in Oamaru the night and then got up early and back in the car and off to Dunedin, about a 1.5 hour drive.
