Well!!
Woke up in Kaka Point early and got set for my raodtrip for the day.
Drove the short distance to Nugget point and Rolling bay to see some sea lions....no penguins though! Then on and into the Catlins. What a beautiful place....it was like Devon...rolling hills, green and loads of sheep..... Stopped at Catherdral caves and went into them as it was low tide on the beach and made several other stops in the Catlins to see waterfalls andf beautiful beach scenery.
The Catlins also have almost tropical rainforests which was excellent to walk through and listen to birds singing, altogether a totally relaxing day.
The drive meant a stay in Invercargill would be logistically a good move, but when I got there it was like a nothing town....shouldnt even exist.....you were SO right Topper! So got back int he motor and headed for Te Anau..being a lovely lakeside town which is en route to Milford and Doubtful sounds. Got to Te Anau at about 9pm and therefore as its high season spent some time looking for a place to stay and nearly everything was full. Ended up in a 8 man dormitory with a load of Shermans who are hiking the sounds and so the room was full of 5 day old drying hiking gear. Only way to get around it was to go out have 6 pints, semi pissed and into bed, waking them all up in the process. Dont think I will get the person of the moment vote fropm the USA judges! Still they are screwing up the world economy so I thought I would do my own little bit to get them back!
Slept like a brick.
