Luang Prabang is cool! The bars and restuarants here lure you in with twinkling fairy lights, rather than the neon glare of Vang Vieng. There's bustling night market selling all manner of touristy crap, and we even saw some fireworths the first night we were there. Just spent three days at Rivertime Resort and Eco-lodge, near Vientiane - it's one of the most beautiful, chilled out places I've ever seen. It's basically a handful of bamboo/wooden huts on the banks of the Mekhong river, with limited hot water and electricity but an amazing floating restaurant (homegrown fruit and veg, fish they catch themselves) and nature trails nearby.
