Sihanoukville is a very cooled and chilled-out place! I was half-expecting it to be some kind of party beach, like a Cambodian Ko Phan Nang, but it was much more about barbecues on the beach than full-on beach raves. There was one messy night that ended up with me carrying Selina home, but that was entirely our own doing! We think it must be something they put in the red bull here, he he!
The beach here is quite pretty, but it's ruined slightly by the amount of rubbish that locals and tourist just drop everywhere. Someone needs to tell them that not littering helps keep a place nicer for longer! We've just spent three days here doing not much aside from sunbathing, reading and listening to ipods, interspersed with the occaisional dip in the sea.
There are lots of kids selling things along the beach. and on our first afternoon here some particularly cute little girls cajoled me into buying a woven shrimp from them. Selina found it highly amusing that I'd fallen for their charms, and then ended up buying one from them herself that same evening! The found us again the next day (along with an even cuter little boy) and swiftly became our new best friends - man, those kids made a fortune out of us! I think the final list of what we bought from them goes something like this: pedicure x 2, manicure x1, shrimps x 2, cambodian flag bookmark x2, bracelet x 1, fresh fruit x 6. They were adorable (yes, I really said that!) and great entertainment though - the little boy was very excitable and a little camp too (on our last day he came to show off his new 'hello kitty' bag to us). One day we had the misfortune to end up sat next to a replusive Swiss man in a leopard-print thong, and when he leaned over to say something to me about the kids, the little boy whispered to Selina, "careful, he might love you!" To which his friend advised us: "don't marry old like him, marry young man, lots of money"! They gave us a woven fish and another bracelet each as a present on the day we left, bless!
We're off to Ho Chi Minh City tomorrow, and although I'm excited to be going to another new country, I'm definitely sad to leave Cambodia - it's one of my favourite countries ever and I definitely intend to come back.
Byeee for now!
