We spent our first full day in Adelaide walking around the city centre, shops and botanical gardens, which was all good and nice. The weather was kind to us too and I enjoyed a nice sparkling coopers ale sitting outside at The Exeter. We then caught up on some much needed washing at the hostel and played table tennis for a while waiting for it to finish. The hostel was nice and you even got free tea/coffee and pancakes in the morning. In the evening we had a meal at a nice restaurant called British India, which was an interesting mix of traditional English dishes with Indian spices. We had lamb shanks braised in curry and shepherds pie with lamb bhuna replacing the bolognaise - excellent idea!
Yesterday, we hired bikes for free from SA Bikes and went out of the city, following the river to the beach. After cycling 15km we arrived at Henley beach, which was quiet and windy with just a few cafes. We had a coffee/hot chocolate break and started making our way back (via Burger King)! About a third of the way home, Lisa got off her bike to walk up a hill as it was too steep and windy for her to ride up it. She then saw some green birds in a tree and temporarily stopped concentrating on balance - admiring the birds - to damaging if not hilarious consequences! The wind blew the bike over and knocked Lisa to the ground, though thankfully for her head she was wearing her helmet as it smashed into the concrete! Her ankle, bum, back, wrist and elbow were not so fortunate however - she was bleeding a little and grazed, but managed to battle through the remaining 10km without too much trouble. Brave Lisa. It was a nice hot day and we were exhausted so we had a lazy afternoon and evening at the hostel.
Today, we went out to the Chinatown markets and bought some cheap food for dinner - I got a kangaroo fillet for about £2 and we got 2 parsnips for 5p each! Lisa got a cheap pork chop. We fly to Perth late tomorrow afternoon and are looking forward to the next part of our adventure…
