Sat 20th,Up at 8am,ready for our 13.10 flight to Chiang Mai(North Thailand)met up with a bloke called Forest(yes that was his real name after a famous runner)American of course, booked 2 twin rooms in the JJ Guesthouse as it would work out cheaper, went to the Rose bar just up the road, run by a nice German bloke, watched Everton beat Man U 3 0 then Arsenal beat Sunderland 2 0 so not a bad night.
Sun 21st,Forest moved out to another hostel, myself and Jamie hired scooters to see a bit more of Chiang Mai,had a really good ride with some nice roads,Ian went fishing and caught a massive 25kilo Mekong cat fish(he has the photo's to proof it)met up with Matt again and staying in Forest's bed.
Mon 22nd,Had a walk round to the post office to send some items we bought in Laos and Cambodia back home, cost us a few pound but was worth it to get some space in our bags, hired a tuk tuk to take us to take us to the tribe museum, interesting to see the way they still live, met up with Thomas later for a drink.
Tues 23rd,Picked up at 8am for our trip to the elephant sanctuary, both man and pick up truck quite fast which made the trip a bit cooler, when we arrived about 45mins later we were surprised to see the elephants walking right by the side of us and they are massive, saw a show with them doing some tricks and playing football, don't normally like to see these great animals cooped up and made to do things but this place was different they looked well looked after, after the show they take you for a very bumpy ride on a cart pulled by a couple of ox's,next a big highlight to ride on the elephant,I was lucky to get 1 on my own Jamie and Ian went together, again you get thrown around a bit but a great experience, fed them some banana's and had some picture's taken, watched them have thier bath and then had a trip down the river on a bamboo raft, nothing had been very soft on our bum's today and the raft was no exception but really enjoyable.Next part of the trip was to go to a butterfly and orchid farm,we lasted well, about 10mins then said is there somewhere else we could go he said Tiger Kingdom, that will do for us,we thought we would pay the 320b and get a couple of crap pics from miles away, wrong!!we were in the cage with 3 of them sat next to them stroking them,an unbeliveable experience, even though they are really tame they were big and could still take a big bite out of you,we took some ritz biscuits in with us just in case they did get hungry, what a great day,to get so close to 2 great animals.Back to the hostel to pack our bags and get on our 5omin flight to Bangkok,Flew with Bangkok airways for the first time, very nice and comfortable, got a taxi to the Hi-Sukhumvitt hostel,a bit far out from the town but the metro was at the end of the road so not a problem.
