After 2 1/2 hrs on a boat and 30mins on a plane we arrived in Cusco. As Cusco is 3326m above sea level it is possible to get altitude sickness, although it is a good place to acclimatise for the Inca Trail.
Our Inca Trail guide Dimas came to talk to us about the hikes atc. We were given our duffle bags to put our personal belongings in for the porters to carry. Our bags can only weigh a maximum of 6 KG... as my sleeping bag and roll mat weigh 5 it looks like i'm going with only the clothes i'm wearing. Bruno picked up all out hired equipment, I only hired a sleeping bag as i brought my Thermarest. My bag smells like it has never been washed and an old tramp has spent his lofe sleeping in it!
We met Sue and Margret - Margert had her passport stolen and as they are really strict with passport numbers on the Inca Trail there is a chance she won't be able to come with us and will met us a Machu Picchu on Monday. We all went out for lunch and I started feeling like I was still on the boat in the jungle, instead of doing the sensible thing of drink water to combat the altitude sickness I decided it would be better to drink Pisco Sours. By that evening I was feeling like I had a hangover and the flu while being on a boat. I left everyone in the resturant for an early night as we are off to the sacred valley in the morning then staying in Ollantaytambo in preparation for the Inca Trail.
