I did not sleep particularly well due to the cold weather. Coffee in the bar area and found out that the road I wanted to travel was blocked due to an overtured truck. I waited for perhaps an hour and then decided to set off. Luckily it appeared the truck had already been cleaned up by the time I passed.
The road was again twisty and foggy, but the trees & landscape was wonderful. I drove through Manchester which has a population of 260'ish people. Then there was Elk which was very picturesque and has a population of approx 462, and then on to Albion with a population of 398. Basically some of these places only seemed to have the main street with a few houses along it and that appeared to be all... in some cases, not even a petrol station. At Fort Bragg, there was a huge amount of mobile homes on the outskirts... looked like a right classy place. However, they did have a drive through Starbucks... yum!
I have entered the world of 3 things... large Americans, country music & stunning scenery. Yep, I must have been the smallest person out during the days.I took the scenic route along Avenue of the Giants, which is a side road that runs along the highway, and in some places it has to go around the large redwood trees.
I spent the night in Eureka. Arrived late and checked into the Quality Inn... not bad and fairly cheap. Cold weather and had to ask for another blanket. I also had to brave the laundrette across the road from the Inn which appeared to have a few people hanging around outside, but drying was free - bonus! Dinner was at OH Town House - massive steak - tea and cola.
