I was up early'ish to do my laundry. What a pain, but much needed.
I decided to walk along the south rim trail - takes a few hours & goes along the edge for the most part. Some of the trail was pretty dangerous cos it was very slippery & icy. The views were so spectacular. I was totally in awe. I seemed to walk for hours & then decided to turn around when I had to walk along the road. I passed many little deer that were just happily eating in the brush. I also spotted elk... they were so cute and seemed happy enough for all of us to stop and photograph them.
I jumped into the car and drove the route stopping at all the parking places to view & take photos. Its approximately an 8 mile drive & ends at Hermits Rest. As the day went on, the colours of the canyon went really red in certain points. The canyon is 18 miles wide at is widest point, but the average is 10 miles wide. Its also approx 1 mile deep. Quite an amazing structure to view. At a couple of the viewing points you could actually hear the water below rushing over the boulders in rapids. I am not sure I would like to do the white water rafting.
There is also a path, the Bright Angel Trail, that goes down into the canyon base & you can either hike it, or take a mule ride down. After looking at that track, I certainly would not do it. Both mules & hikers take the same route & if they meet, the mules have right of way. The track was so narrow, full of snow and looks like bloody hard work.
Dinner was at the Bright Angel restaurant again - steak this time & rather yummy.
