Up at 3.30am, hopefully the last 3.30am rise for a while. Getting to the airport for 4.30am was pretty painless. We drove through the main part of Lami, which gave us a chance to observe the last few sex tourists and single guys either staggering home or slumped on bar stools at the bar. Before we knew it we were in Bangkok and heading for Khao Sann Road in a taxi. As I had imagined Khao Sann Road was a tourist haven. Shops and stalls lined the street along with bars and restaurants. Signs stretched over the streets and rose into the sky like trees in a tropical forest fighting for light and space. I noticed on one sign you could by a fake IDs. Anything from a driving licence to a high school diploma - madness. We had definitely arrived in the City of Sin... Sin City.
We checked into our hotel. I had wanted to get my computer fixed as I had cracked the screen. I did a little bit of enquiring and it seemed we need to head across the city to PanTip. This was a large shopping mall that sold anything and everything electrical. I had envisaged getting a cheap replacement screen fitted whilst we waited - I had looked on the web and a refit was pretty straightforward. Ju was more pessimistic and thought we may have to leave the computer with them (not an issue, just slightly inconvenient). I was amazed when we stepped inside the mall. This was the place to come for anything computer orientated. I had checked prices of replacement screens back home which retailed around £50 - £60. I wasn't surprised after a bit of shopping around to get my screen replaced for £40, bargain (well at least I think so). And what's more they did it whilst we waited... result!
The rest of the day was spent doing a little life admin and relaxing in the room. We ventured out briefly to grab some dinner. The street was in full swing. I didn't care for Khao Sann Road. It was just full of a load of unsavoury types that you'd expect to see in a somewhere in a rough pub on the Blackbird Lee estate in Oxford. It's a good job we have the Fox network - time for a movie!
