Wow what a noisy night last night. Revellers next door banging on the floor and wall. Luckily my ear plugs managed to block most of the sound. Despite a disturbed nights sleep we left to walk the route across the top of town that we walked yesterday. We passed the same old graffiti hotspots and beaten old cars overgrown at the edge of the road. We stopped at a viewing spot to soak up the scene of the harbour below with it's cruise ships and war ships. The majority of vessels were blowing their horns which could be heard even from this distance. It was slightly alarming and I came to the extreme conclusion there must be a Tsunami coming - good job we're on high ground!
It was good to be out, relaxed and walking around burning up calories. We descended into town and along the main street to the bus terminal. We were escorted part of the way by a very helpful gentleman who gave us a potted history of his life - he had worked on a wine ship cruising back and forth to the UK. By contrast after buying our bus tickets to Pucon we navigated through the local market where every greasy unsavoury character undressed Ju with their eyes. I don't have a problem with that - it's only when they're brave enough to make a comment. Like one particular chap who called me 'Gringo' when he couldn't get Ju's attention... "You what?" - it's hot and I am not in the mood 'wet back' I thought as I stopped in my tracks and gave him the evils. It seems to be a common problem in Chile... Ju's blond hair attracts loads of attention from males whilst I walk behind or in front of her completely invisible. I can understand the attraction, but sometimes it can be very annoying.
We boarded the metro and after a short 10 minute ride we reached Vino Del Mar. We strolled the streets and enjoyed the warmth of the sun on our faces. It was a similar affair on the beach - we lay and basked in the sunshine watching the locals relaxing and having fun. Ju uttered a few words to me... "The suns not too strong down here in Vino" Later that evening back at the hotel we compared burn marks. Looking quite lobstered we prepared tea with the shopping we bought on the way home. We had arranged to met Bernie and Claire at our hostel for dinner. We took delight in catching up again with the OZ couple we had met previously in La Paz. Ju made a lovely bolognaise pasta dish with the limited ingredients we had. We enjoyed a lovely evening exchanging travelling stories over a large bottle of red - a good time was had by all.
