Yawn yawn yawn... I am tired was to be the order of the day. Like Ju mentioned in yesterdays blog the last three weeks had definitely caught up with us. This morning it felt like we were made of metal and there was a large magnet under the bed keeping us pinned down. We just about made it to breakfast - although we looked and communicated like incoherent idiots half asleep.
Apart from picking up our washing we didn't move from the hostel all day except for dinner. The sun was out early on so we basked in it's warmth before returning to the room mid afternoon for a couple of hours sleep. Dinner in the evening consisted of seafood... my option was cooked and hilariously Ju's wasn't! So being a kind husband I exchanged some of my cooked fish for her raw 'something' (we never managed to work out what it was). I enjoyed a super large local Chilean beer called 'crystal' which tasted fine. We strolled back to the hostel where we relaxed in our room reading or catching up with World events online. Jon the American chap on our tour dropped in to say hi. We had a bottle of Chilean red on the go so he joined us for a few glasses which went down rather nicely. Heather his partner joined us a little later in the evening and we ended up chatting about World affairs. We were surprised to hear whilst travelling Jon and Heather had on occasions pretended to be Canadian. They felt it was safer and easier to travel pretending to be Canadians rather than Americans as they have been treated negatively as Americans in the past. This information didn't surprise us, it saddened us, it's never the politicians that feel the consequences of their decisions. It didn't take long for us to switch off after our guests left the room - we were asleep within minutes.
One thing we have noticed in South America which seems to be a common theme in every restaurant or hostel has the inability to either bring out food or beverage on time or in the correct sequence. For example; milk received after the tea placed on the table has gone luke warm. Your beer arrives with the starters or main, no pre drinks before dinner! Most annoyingly the main arrives just after the you have tucked into the starter - what's that all about?! You get used to it after a while, it's all part of the fun!
