Well IÂ have now made it a little further south down to Airlie Beach - not doing the standard backpacker Whitsunday sailing trip as I did it last time so am saving the money for New Zealand. Was good to move on from Magnetic Island - not really a lot to do there so was getting a bit boring. The Full moon party was a bit of an anticlimax - loads of locals there and really busy so the cheesy/backpacker friendly atmosphere of all week was missing! On Saturday we all got the ferry over to Townsville, the rest of the people I've been with all went straight down to Airlie Beach but I thought I'd stay in Townsville to catch up on sleep (about 15 hours was needed!) and also to climb the Castle Hill which gave great views of the city, airport and back out to sea to Magnetic Island. I got the bus down to Airlie on Sunday afternoon. had a slight incident with my backpack getting taken off the bus in Ayr, about 4 hours back up the coast! Driver c*** up basically. Luckily some random girl realised no one had picked it up and kindly put it back on the bus on Monday so I got it back all in one piece yesterday afternoon. I had all my valuables on me so just had to buy a toothbrush really! They gave me a 20% off voucher so should save me a fair bit. Had an amazing day yesterday - 2 guys in my dorm are over here for 5 weeks to get their flying hours in as they are training to be commercial pilots. They came here as it's cheaper and the weather is more reliable than home. They have hird a little 4 seater plane and have flown all over Australia - backpacking in style! Anyway they took me out for a flight over the Whitsunday islands for free which was absolutely brilliant, partly just for the views and also as being an Aerospace geek I loved just going up in the plane. The landing strip was basically a grass field! I am getting the overnight bus to Rainbow Beach this afternoon - 14 hour journey and get in at 7am, saves on a nights accomodation though. Then on Thurs I do my 3 day 2 night Fraser trip - one thing I was definitely wanting to do again. Then after that I will be getting a bit of a move on down the coast to get to sydney and then Melbourne for the 22nd May as I'm visiting the GKN site there on the 23rd. So I think there will be a few long overnight bus journeys coming up to cover the distance!
