New years eve!
Hey. Its olivia
We moved on from the red light district to a lovely little house, or 3 lovely little houses rather with joint gardens at the back. Little did we know it was actually someones house. The owner double booked and so we were basically bunking in with people who had lived there for a few months. It worked out well as they were all really sound. Our particular house had 2 people from Denmark who spoke English so well we thought they were English (one of them looked like lucy e so much!). AAAnd 2 other people (really nice guys) who for the time being bummed out in the house and slept in their car.
Anyway, new years. For new years we of course decided to go to see the fireworks. There was a 3 hour queue to get in to the gardens but that soon passed as there was rather a large group of us from the houses. We got in at about 4 and had little under 8 hours to wait. We'd all prepared a rather large picnic which occupied us for about 15 minutes it was too windy to play uno so we did what was only left to be done, we drank!
The rest of the day was a blur really dont remeber the fireworks much at all. hahah only joking, we played fun games made friends with people. Probably the MOST exciting part of the day one girl (sarah) mentioned to me she was from cornwall. Anouther girl over heard they got talking, turns out they lived on the SAME street in the SAME set of flats, they even knew people from the other flats. Of all the people in Sydney and all the 25000 people in this park they bumped into eachother here and not on their own street. Oh my!
At 9 there was a childrens firework display with a wizard of oz theme. This got everyone very excited for the main event. With another 2 hours left to kill the drinking continued. There wasnt many toilets so it was a custom to make conversation and joked with people around you while in the queue. We were discussing how one set of girls would spend ages looking in the mirror. So one lady offered them a prize for the fastes. hahaha.
For the main fireworks we moved so we were directly in front of the brige on a bank. There was luckily just enough room for us all. With a rather loud mouthed scouser behind us who was rather funny and reminded simmons an awfull lot of home. We got talking to them and they had bveen there for 10 hours so they could have a good spot and we turn up an hour before eeep. They went to the toilet at about 11:15 and never made it back through the crowds of people hahaha i bet they were well annoyed. So here we are hundreds of poeple sat on a hill trying do hard not to slip down and take out the person in front of you when all of a sudden eveyone was in a panic jumping up left right and centre. A possum had found itself running around the people give most tourists a rather large shock. It was by far the funniest moment of 2006 (maybe).
Then the firework display, and what a firework display it was! directly in front was the bridge that was amazing then on the right big huge fireworks mirrored by ones to the left of the bridge behind the opera house and far left there was fireworks being set of on the tops of skyscapers. It lasted quite a while. Afterwoods we all went back to the house for a PARTAAAAA. We sat in the garden for a bit, simmons went to bed cause he felt ill (too much alcohol) and me and Robson stayed up fro a bit then at 4 we put a film on Matt got about an hours sleep in then at 6 we started getting ready to go on the surf tour.
All in all it was a great way to bring in the new year, we had a really good time with our new friends and were really looking forward to the surf tour. xxx
