Hi Guys!
Sorry we haven't been in touch for a few days but we're camping at the moment so our free internet access is limited!
On wednesday morning, after a tiring 13 hour bus journey, we arrived in Byron Bay- a small town on the beach filled with hippies and backpackers. We thought we'd do the backpacker thing and not book our accommodation in advance but unfortunately this meant that the only places available were a hippie-run hostel where they didn't believe in having locks on the doors (including the mixed-sex bathroom door) and a campsite quite far out of town. Needless to say, we went for the campsite. Although a bit out of the way, it was a very nice campsite- right on the beach and surrounded by rainforest. Its closeness to the rainforest caused us to have a visitor to the site- a huge lizard, remarkably similar to a Komodo Dragon. Yep, thats right, a Komodo-Dragon-sized lizard just strolling round the campsite. Crazy country! Whilst in Byron Bay, we took the opportunity to book the rest of our accommodation in Australia to ensure more convenient locations.
At the moment, we are in Sufers Paradise, a much more commercialised beach and town. Its also prime location for the Gold Coast's theme park and we managed to get a brilliant deal on tickets to Wet n' Wild and Sea World. We had a great day at Wet n' Wild after we arrived yesterday and spent today in Sea World. Despite the somewhat oppressive heat (not that we're complaining- it rained all night in Byron Bay which was a bit scary in the tent!), we had a really good day. By far the best thing was the Polar Bear. We saw him at just the right time, when he was playing in the water with his toys. We've got some good videos and pics which we'll upload when we next get the chance.
Tomorrow, we are heading up to Brisbane which we are really looking forward to.
Hope you are all okay at home!
Love Sian and Fin xxx
