Hi Guys!
Before I start, in regard to all the hints about the photos we STILL haven't updated, we are trying but not all of the computers are particularly modern and it doesn't seem to be working. We will sort it out at some point soon though- the longer it takes the more photos we have to upload!
Anyway, we spent the last two days in Rockhampton, a small town (very small upon closer inspection) that is famous for its beef! Apparently they have over a million cows and they pride themselves on serving the best steak around for miles. Not the reason we chose to go there, but it was an added bonus. We stayed in the YHA and we had a nice little cabin with an ensuite. To sample the famour steak, we went to a rodeo and had a bbq while we watched men trying to stay atop angry-looking bucking bulls. It wasn't as fun as I expected but it was something to watch while we consumed our food. The steak itself didn't quite live up to expectations either but it was nice and it was the first time I'd had chips since we've been away. They were nice!
We were sad to leave our little cabin in Rockhampton, but we had to, and we arrived in Airlie Beach a few hours ago. This is our last stop before we reach Cairns on monday and its a nice little beachside town. Theres loads of restaurants all within walking distance which makes a nice change. As we have been mostly staying on caravan parks they tend to be a bit further out of town and its been impossible to walk in the kind of heat that we've had (mid thirties every day) so we've ended up spending loads on public transport. We had originally booked a tent site here but thought better of it when we realised that the further north we go, the hotter it is getting. Staying in a hostel instead of a tent was definitely a good idea as we are expecting Cyclone Hamish to hit here at 4am in the morning. Its currently raining pretty heavily and the wind is picking up but we'll be tucked up in bed for the worst of it.
Our next update will be from Cairns, where we are spending our last week in Australia. Bye for now!
Love Sian and Fin xxx
