Where to begin with Singapore! i really don't think I have walked so much in my life. The first afternoon / evening when I got there I walked all around the Colonial district, visited the infamous Raffles hotel, watched a band warm up, saw the Espanades on the Bay, saw the Merlion, had dinner on the quay side, bumped into the two blokes I met in the Cameron Highlands (yes I know I am very rubbish at names) and walked all the way back to my hostel which was beyond Little Italy. That is a fair walk btw. And that was just the first day.
The next day I walked to and around the Malaysian part of Singapore and visted the Malaysian Heritage Centre just so that I could learn as much as I could from Malaysia / Singapore before I left. I then walked all the way to China Town (btw I think everyone reading this should download a map to fully appreciate the amount that I have walked, I was staying at a hostel on the furthest end of Jalan Besar!) Around china town where I bought more pressents when I promised myself that I wouldn't, Mum you a very lucky you are now extremely spoilt! I then walked all the way back to my hostel where I had to rest for a couple of hours so that the feeling returned in my legs and feet.
After resting up for a while I walked to Little India that was a much shorter walk, walked around here exploring before finding somewhere to have a really nice dinner before returning back to my hostel where I ended up watching films for the rest of the evening, and made a friend called George.
After the previous days productiveness at seeing the majority of the city I was unsure of what I wanted to do with my day. All I had planned was meeting up with the South African couple Jason and Nikki at the botanical gardens in the late afternoon and also going back into Little India to get my eyebrows threaded before flying off to Australia the following day. So I took the morning quite slowly and sorted out everything for my flight the following day. Eventually I ventured out and changed some money up en route, but the girl that I was walking with needed to find her way back and on the way the heavens opened. So I stayed in the hostel for a little bit longer. And this time I re-packed my bag so that I could fit everything into it. I'm starting to run out of space :S Again eventually I left the hostel and grabbed some lunch with George at a Hawker stall that my Lonely Planet had recommended and that wasn't too far away. It was really nice though!
I then went off and got my eyebrows threaded and walked all the way to Orchard road (again please get out maps to see how far this was to walk!) and then I realised I actually needed to catch a bus to make it in time to meet the couple at the Botanical gardens. We didn't spend as much time as I thought we were going to around the gardens as they were also meeting up with some other friends to go to church. I ended up joining them and it was quite a pleasant service. And it was really nice being able to catch up with them. After the service we went our seperate ways and I had a short wander down Orchard Road to see all of the Christmas lights. I then got the MRT back to Little India rather than attempting the walk back and grabbed some dinner at my last Hawker place before I left Asia. I was really lucky here as I was looking really lost at what to order so thisnice Indian guy helped me. I then joined him and his friends for dinner, who were all really nice. It was also his friends Hawker stall and he refused to let me pay for dinner! Such nice guys!
I then off course walked back to the hostel and watched more films. I also tried going to bed but soon realised I wasn't going to be able to sleep. So I got back up and the more time that passed I decided it was pointless going to sleep. I had company for a while from a really creepy Chinese man, then from George and then just with the hostel owner who gave me cake at 4am (by the way everyday she baked a different cake as part of the breakfast! So good!) I did manage to get about 1hr30mins sleep though but not in the bed that I paid for but on sofa downstairs. I was given a blanket and pillow though. And then at 6.30am I had to sadly leave the hostel to make my way to the airport to leave Asia : ( sad times and go off to Australia! Silver lining though, I get Candy back to travel with and also get to catch up with Valentina!
