Georgia is amazing! As a country the size of Ireland, the diversity of the landscape and the things to see are incredible! So far we have dined on the Black Sea, cooled our feet in the gorge at Martvili, driven passed raging torrents on precarious ledges and walked up to the tongue of a glacier!
Yesterday we went on our "beginners" hike, climbing 900m to reach The Cross that overlooks the Mestia village. Well, not so much of a beginners hike then! And then the glacier today was... not what I expected... It was very dirty, and in some parts you couldn't tell if it was soil or just soil on top of ice! We saw a few boulders fall! We had to cross a majorly rickety bridge, and I'm sure you all know how I feel about those - TERRIFIED! It was beautiful though with the mountains all around us. Check out the Georgia photo albums!
Unfortunately, the ethnographic museum was closed for refurbishment. Actually, all of Mestia looked like it was under construction! But we found a new hostel, Seti, and Laila's cafe/bar did great food; kachapuri, khinkali, lobio, soko ketze, ajapsandali - I'm not going to tell you what they are, just yum, and you can look them up!
And we got our Chinese Letters of Invitation!! Woohoo! So now we just need to get to Tblisi and send off the documents to apply for the visa! We have to still get teh Chinese, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan visas... hopefully we can get them all organised in the next few weeks!
