Hey all! It's been a while since my last update and I'm not sure how much time I've got left on this computer, so if it cuts out I'll need to continue another time (you know how I like to write novels... and I haven't updated since Melbourne!)
So I'm in the middle of Oz at the moment, in Alice Springs. I just finished a 6 day trip from Adelaide so I'm pretty knackered... most days we were up at 4 or 5am to set off an hour later.
I think last time I updated, I was about to go up the Eureka Skydeck. It was great! I didn't end up doing the Edge as it was more money and didn't look that great (plus I might have been just a wee tiny bit scared to do it), but the views of the city were brilliant from up there.
The following morning I was up bright and early to start my 3 day tour from Melbourne to Adelaide. For the first time we had a female driver called Kate, who was super enthusiastic! We started the trip by having breakfast in a place called Torquay which is supposedly the most famous/best surfing town in Australia (or did she say the world?) After that we drove for a while and we saw the lighthouse from Round the Twist (remember Round the Twist??! It was an Aussie kids TV show that was on in the 90s!) I was the only Brit on this tour and nobody else knew or cared about the Round the Twist lighthouse, but I thought it was quite cool to see it. We drove along the Great Ocean Road, which was pretty cool, but the weather was mostly bad so it didn't look as impressive as it could have, I feel! We stopped at this place to see some koalas which were super cute! Then we stopped for lunch in a place called Apollo Bay, and soon after we left, our bus decided to start leaking diesel everywhere... we had to turn back to Apollo Bay and, 5 hours and a few pitchers of beer later, we were on our way again. We missed out on a tree top walk (don't think anybody cared!) and the sunset over the 12 Apostles - fairly upsetting. That night we stayed in a really nasty and cold hostel in a place called Princetown. Eww.
Next day we got up and drove to the 12 Apostles, which were beautiful. Luckily the sun was shining on them, so I guess it made up for missing the sunset over them the night before. We went into the Grampians National Park, which apparently is named after the Grampians in Scotland. We did a hike to the "Pinnacle" which was quite tough but the views at the top were great, if a bit cloudy. Luckily the group was quite cool as well (made good friends with some Swiss people, Daniel and Daniela, who I'm still with now in Alice, but will have to say goodbye to on Saturday - boohoo). We watched the sunset and then our accommodation for the night was actually a house owned by Oz Experience in this campsite type place in Halls Gap. It was really nice to all have our own house and this Canadian guy Kyle had an acoustic guitar with him, so we all sat around the fire (not a real fire, but good enough) and sang some songs :) Always good fun. There were this American couple in their 30s who were really confused when I told them that the UK was made up of 4 countries... Quite funny being the only Brit on the trip!
The next day we were up early again to start our day. We walked down to the Mackenzie Falls which were pretty nice, but freaking difficult to hike back up! Then we pretty much just made our way to Adelaide. We stopped a couple times to look at things like some albino kangaroos! As we came into Adelaide we saw this guy on one of the big bridges in a suit, with a bunch of flowers and a giant sign that said "Sian, will you marry me?" Cute!! Hope she actually drove past that day, and that she said yes. Haha.
I was only in Adelaide for 2 nights, one full day, so can't really say much about the city. Luckily my hostel was really nice though, and Daniel and Daniela stayed there too so it was good. They booked to do the same trip to Alice Springs, which I was really chuffed about!
I think I'm about to run out of time so I'll leave it there and write about the 6 day Adelaide to Alice trip next time! Sorry this has been such a ramble, again! Hope everyone is well at home :) xxx
