Shanghai
'Paris of the east' ... Well very true.
After arriving on a very blustery & misty morning & locating our hotel we took to the streets, particularly the Bund. These buildings all originate from the 1930/1940's built in the British style & it feels like one is walking in London near St Paul's or even Europe. Being a Sunday it was very quiet until lunchtime then family groups & many many courting couples throng the streets plus of course Weddings !!!! Brides everywhere having their photos taken at the famous Garden bridge built in 1907.The skyline with the Pearl TV tower & the amazing finance tower is incredible even on a dull day . We ended the day at a Chinese Resturant where were we presented with iPad like tablets to choose the menu and order from !!!!! R was impressed!
Got a great deal $60 for 2 day ticket to ride the bus ... On 3 different routes + a river tour + a 45 sec ride up the 480metre high Jin Mao tower... Where we were able to enjoy a spectacular 360degree view of the city. The mist / cloud had lifted a little by then. Had fascinating walk thru the old city where R found irresistible iPad 'stuff'. In amongst all this activity we had a delicious stuffed bun & wonton soup lunch for $3!
The 6.30pm boat trip was a highlight ... Just amazing seeing the city lit up at night!!! A fantasy land & enough 'bling' to gladden my heart.
On a fashion note ... Co-ordinated PJ's are all the rage .. From downtown shanghai to the bustling train station!!
Next stop Beijing via bullet train.

George Great stuff. Enjoy Beijing. Particularly good scorpions on a stick round to the east side of the Forbidden City. Bon appetit!
