Ko Phi Phi a gorgeous island sadly devastated by the Tsunami but being rebuilt at a rate of knots there is building work going on everywhere, there are no cars and you can walk everywhere on the island in about 30 mins. A torqouise blue sea, limestone karsts and just around the corner from the location of "the beach" film we are very happy to have arrived in paradise! Sadly due to it being so nice accomodation doesn't come cheap and we end up staying at PP Don Chuckit resort, very much like Butlins rows and rows of chalets, but how much time do we spend in our room anyway?? well considering we only have a fan and it could be mistaken for a sauna the answer is as little as possible...
We charter our own little narrow boat, and driver and head for Long Beach the scenery is stunning we manage to while away the day on the beach, sleeping, reading, eating and finally relaxing. After a quick costume change we head out to the beach to check out the nightlife on offer as the only thing we managed to do last night was sleep! We find Ibiza bar on the beach to watch a fire show, crazy Thai fit lads sooming fire batons around their heads, very talented and drinking whiskey buckets the whole time, mad!! We meet some friends Nile and Armine who we do a mini bar crawl along the beach with ending in a bar where thet are playing skip with a giant fire engulfed rope, pissed tourists hurling themselves at it - only in Thailand.
The next day we head to check out the surrounding islands of Phi Phi Ley, all smaller and uninhabited with our new found friends. It's very choppy water outside the protection of our little bay so our little wooden boat has a rough time, but it's well worth it! After touring around marvelling at the scenery and taking loads of photo's we stop at Maya (the beach) for a spot of snorkelling. The fish were amazing and the water so clear, we desperately wanted an underwater camera and I didn't want to get out but sadly our boat driver had other ideas so we had to trek back through the caves and over the sharp coral in bear feet and swim back to our boat. The others check out a viewpoint for the sunset, which Sharon tells me was spectacular and well worth the 800 steps and red faced pictures, I was glad to have opted for catching the last few hours of sun laying on the beach. That night we head back out to the beach bars and also visit a Thai boxing pub where tourists can participate, some northern English girls have a fight and the smaller ends up in hospital in a very bad way, me and Sharon decide to give it a miss given we have still got 9 months of travelling to go together!
Sadly the next day it's time to leave, so with only a few hours sleep we start the journey to Burma for our visa run, when all we really want to do is lie on the beach...never mind in a few days we will be on Koh Tao and we can relax until new year!!
