I couldn't pass up the opportunity to have Burma as an entry on our blog, so sadly you guys have to endure a short story about our visa run - which was actually pretty easy and uneventful so I'll keep it brief!
After a ferry ride from Ko Phi Phi, which I don't recomend with a hangover, we find a local bus to Ranong that leaves in 1/2 hour and manage to sleep for the rest of the day on the bus. At the other end we find a guesthouse called Kiwi that is right near the bus station and border and will organise our visa run and onward transport for us so desperate just to be back on the beach we take the easy option and check in for a night's sleep.
The next morning is a 5am start with a bus to the border and then a random boat ride that took us between Piers (in Thailand and Burma) to fill in the relevant forms and get the required stamps. Very bizzare a whole river of boats jetting up and down with the sole purpose of visa runs, I'm surpirsed our boat didn't sink as it was totally unbalanced and tiping over the whole way. We spent the grand total of 1/4 hour in Burma, where I met Lucky (he has two thumbs on one hand) and manage to exchange some Baht for Burmese money, absolutely no idea how much it is worth, but I was pleased as I'm collecting foreign notes and it's one I hadn't bargained on getting.
Then another bus ride to Krabi and a short wait around we board the Catamaran to Koh Tao, very excited at the prospect of being in the same place for 2 weeks over Christmas and New Year..... we have even booked accomodation and have a free taxi the other side to Budha View Diving School my cousin Alex's recommendation...so it's plain sailing from here on in!
(By the way I didn't take the photo attached, but it was far more impressive than any that i did take on our short stay in Burma!)
